Davidson Environmental runs a green bin exchange program for grocery stores, kitchens and restaurants in southern Ontario. As a waste services provider, they are always exploring ways to create additional value to their clients by offering better solutions for handling their organic waste. Installing Fitec’s BioSqueeze Depackaging technology came as a natural fit for Davidson.

Designed for handling packaged or contaminated food wastes such as household organics, food wastes from restaurants and institutions, expired packaged foods from grocery stores, the BioSqueeze liquifies organics, separating them from contaminants to produce an energy-dense biopulp suitable for use at compost or anaerobic digestion facilities.

The BioSqueeze changed the business model for Davidson Environmental. It increased their client base and produced a high-demand and valuable end-product (biopulp) that can be delivered to compost facilities and biogas plants such as the Escarpment Renewables facility in Grimsby, ON.

Prior to Davidson, the BioSqueeze had only been used in complete facility designs. However, this installation became a prototype of the easily installed BioSqueeze ‘plug-and-play’ kit, which can be added to and commissioned at pre-existing sites.

“FITEC’S BIOSQUEEZE SYSTEM HAS BECOME A VALUABLE TOOL IN OUR EFFORTS TO RECYCLE EVEN MORE FOOD WASTE. THE EQUIPMENT HANDLES ANY PACKAGING, IN ANY QUANTITY, WITH NO WATER ADDED — AS PROMISED.”

Fitec has recently proposed installing these kits at Canadian wastewater treatment facilities, as a solution for municipalities looking to recover value from a variety of mixed waste streams, preventing them from piling up in landfills, and offsetting their capital and operating costs for existing infrastructure.
